Interview with Spondee

Who: Spondee
What: CD Release Party
When: March 14, 2009 7:00 p.m.
Where: the Bengal Cafe, Idaho State University - map

Clint Vickery of Spondee answered a few questions for me about the band, the new CD and their upcoming CD release party.

Describe your genre of music in as much detail as you like. Maybe list your three best crowd-pleasing songs? Can you explain in what way do you most appeal to your fans?

I can try to explain the style/genre of our music all day, we take in quite a few different styles from different decades and piece them together to make write our music. Some call it Powerpop others call it Indie.

*Lovelorn Robot
*Pop Your Socks Off (title track to the new album)
*Dancin' Shoes

Crowd reaction always varies from show to show, even in the same town, but we've seen that poeple really enjoy the danceability of our music. And it's fun to listen to.

Who's in the band? What are your names and what instruments do you play?

Seth-drums, Melissa-Keys, Noah-Bass, Cody-lead Guitar/vocals, Lindsey-Vocals, James-Percussion, Clint-guitar/vocals. This line-up has been together for 2 1/2 months now. Noah is the newest member.

Tell us where you're from and currently based in what town?

We're from all over, Boise, Lewiston, Soda Springs, and Pittsburgh. Right now we're living in Boise though.

Past shows or venues you'd like to brag about? Past or future shows in the Pocatello area?

A lot of our favorite shows we've played in Pocatello because we got our start there, and people will get up and dance for us, and that makes the whole concert experience more fun for everyone.

There in Pocatello we opened for Secondhand Serenade for the Homecoming Concert at the ISU Ballroom, and we played with Finn Riggins at the 1st Nash numerous times.

Describe your new CD, and describe what will happen at the CD release show.

"Pop Your Socks Off" will have 10 tracks. 2 songs were recorded with a friend Lars Lindstrom, and the rest were recorded at the Coming In Second studio in Boise with Jeremy Jenson.

Our CD Release Party March 14th @ the Bengal Cafe 7pm $2 Students $3 Public
order: AW Feldt, Warbonnet, Nyr Lif, Pewter Dragons, Spondee

We'll be selling the new album cheaper at this show than at any other, so if you're a bargain hunter you'll love this.

Any comments about the local live music scene, the music industry in general? What do you think is the best way to get your music out there?

We were a part of the music scene in Pocatello for a while and I'll just say this: starting out YOU have to make it happen in Pocatello and anywhere else for that matter. No one else is going to put flyers up for you, nor call you begging you to play; you have to do it yourself, and it takes time.

Be smart about the places you play and the settings. There are a lot of opportunities to play, but not every venue is for you and your music. Make sure it fits you and where you want your band to go.

Recordings? Will you have CD's or more for sale at the show?

[Spondee has recorded] the new album and our EP "Creeky Step" from May 2008. We won't be selling the EP at the show, but we'll have other merch: t-shirts, bags, stickers, etc.

How can fans contact you? Myspace? or another website?

Anyone can get a hold of us through myspace or our email: spondee123@gmail.com
